Lower Dolpo - Jomsom trek
Dolpa is located inside the Shey-Phoksundu National Park. – Western Nepal, behind the Dhaulagiri massif, towards the Tibetan Plateau. Dolpo reserves one of the remnants of the last Tibetan culture. This trek takes through the wild west of and its strange mixture of ethnic groups. Phuksomdo Lake is the highlight of this trip, a basin of unearthly turquoise blue ringed by rocky crags and forest, framed by snowcapped peaks. This area is surrounded by high mountains including the Dhaulagiri massif to the south east and cut off by high passes closed by snow half the year. You could get chance to see the blue sheep and snow leopard, the creatures all most vanished from the earth.
This trek leads us up to Jomsom, which is at elevation of 2800m.It spreads over both the banks of the Kali Gandaki. The towering peaks of Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri form an attractive backdrop. Being the district headquarters, it is primarily an administrative and commercial center with government officials.
The views from Jomsom are enchanting as the Nilgiri (7,061 m) and Dhaulagiri (8,167m) ranges reflect the golden rays of the rising and setting sun.
The altitude in this area varies from 2012m near Ghasa to 8091 m (Mt. Annapurna) - vertical height difference of 6079 m over a distance of only 14 Km.
